प्राणवायु– ऑक्सीजन | Pranavayu– Oxygen

पृथ्वी के वायुमण्डल में नाइट्रोजन के बाद दूसरी सबसे अधिक मात्रा में पायी जाने वाली गैस 'ऑक्सीजन' है। इसका रासायनिक सूत्र O2 होता है। वायुमण्डल में उपस्थित कुल वायु का 21% भाग ऑक्सीजन है। ऑक्सीजन रासायनिक दृष्टि से अत्यधिक सक्रिय गैस होती है। इसका निर्माण हरे पेड़-पौधों के द्वारा किया जाता है। हरे पौधे प्रकाश संश्लेषण क्रिया और खनिज ऑक्साइडों के अपचयन के द्वारा ऑक्सीजन का निर्माण करते हैं।

The second most abundant gas in the Earth's atmosphere after nitrogen is 'Oxygen'. Its chemical formula is O2. Oxygen is 21% of the total air present in the atmosphere. Oxygen is a chemically highly reactive gas. It is made by green trees and plants. Green plants produce oxygen through photosynthesis and reduction of mineral oxides.

ऑक्सीजन एक प्राणदायी गैस है। इस गैस के बिना पृथ्वी पर जीव-जन्तुओं और मनुष्यों के जीवन की कल्पना नहीं की जा सकती। पृथ्वी पर 'दहन' की क्रिया ऑक्सीजन के बिना सम्भव नहीं है। ऑक्सीजन की उपस्थिति में ही किसी पदार्थ का दहन हो सकता है। इसके अलावा यह गैस जैवमण्डल में उपस्थित पोषक तत्त्वों के चक्रण में सहयोग प्रदान करती है। अवशिष्ट पदार्थों के सड़ने की क्रिया में भी ऑक्सीजन भाग लेती है। पृथ्वी के वायुमण्डल में ऑक्सीजन की मात्रा 'ऑक्सीजन चक्र' के द्वारा संतुलित रहती है।

Oxygen is a living gas. Without this gas, life of animals and humans on earth cannot be imagined. The process of 'combustion' on earth is not possible without oxygen. Combustion of a substance can take place only in the presence of oxygen. Apart from this, this gas helps in the cycling of nutrients present in the biosphere. Oxygen also participates in the process of decomposition of waste materials. The amount of oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere is balanced by the 'oxygen cycle'.
