Natural Vegetation]

That part of vegetation which is produced on its own without human help is called 'natural vegetation'. This type of vegetation is not affected by human for a long time. It is also known as 'Inexhaustible vegetation'. Various types of agricultural crops, fruits and plantations etc. do not come under natural vegetation. These can only be called botanicals.

(Indigenous And Exotic Flora)

That part of the vegetation which is Indian in origin is called 'indigenous' plant. Apart from this, the plants which have been brought from outside India are called 'foreign' plants. Therefore, it is clear that exotic plants are brought from abroad. The origin of plants in a particular area, at a particular time, is called 'botanical kingdom'. Similarly 'animal world' gives information about animals.

(Indian Territory)

Vegetation of any area is affected by land, both directly and indirectly. Different types of vegetation are found in the mountains, plateaus, plains, temperate zone etc. The nature of the land has a great influence on the vegetation. If the land of an area is fertile, then agriculture can be done easily there. Agriculture cannot be done easily on rough and uneven terrain. Wild animals get shelter in forests and grasslands.

(Diversity In Soil)

Different types of soils are found at different places in India. These different types of soils are the basis of different types of vegetation. The vegetation of any area depends on the soil of that area. Sandy soil is found in the desert, so thorny bushes have developed here. The land of river deltas is very fertile, hence deciduous forests are found here. The soil layer is deep on the slopes of the mountains, so coniferous forests have developed here.

(Temperature Difference)

The characteristics of vegetation of any region depend on the temperature. The temperature starts falling above the height of 915 meters on the slopes and other hills of the Himalaya Mountains of India. Due to this the vegetation of these areas starts getting affected. Due to this the vegetation changes from tropical to sub-tropical, temperate and alpine vegetation.

(Sunlight)

The time of sunlight on any area depends on the following factors–
1. Latitude of that area
2. Seasons of that region
3. Height above sea level.
Trees grow faster due to more light in summer.

(Distribution Of Rain)

All the rainfall in India is due to Southwest Monsoon and Northeast Monsoon. The southwest monsoon winds bring rainfall from June to September. Vegetation is also affected by the distribution of rainfall. In areas with high rainfall, dense forests are found. In contrast, dense forests are not found in areas with low rainfall. Thin forests are found here. Forests are very essential for human beings. Forests are renewable resources. Once destroyed, they can be regenerated. Forests also play an important role in enhancing the quality of the environment. They control the local climate, soil erosion and the flow of rivers. They prevent environmental pollution. Forests are the basis of many industries in India. Many useful items are made from the various useful materials obtained from the forests. Forests provide sustenance to many Indian communities. Many jobs are generated through forests. Apart from all this, there are picturesque natural scenes in the forests. Due to this, they attract various tourists from home and abroad. Forests regulate wind and temperature. They also help in bringing rain. Soil gets fossils from forests. Forests provide shelter to wild animals.

(Destruction Of Flora Of India)

Indian flora has undergone changes due to many reasons. Due to the increasing population, the demand for arable land has increased. Due to the development of industries, a lot of useful substances are being taken from the forests. Deforestation is being done due to urbanization. Apart from this, deforestation is also being done for the arrangement of fodder for the animals. Due to this gradually the area of forests is decreasing. In 2003, the total area of India's forests was 68 lakh square kilometers. In many areas of India, the forest area is not natural in the true sense. Barring some important areas like Himalayas, Central India, desert etc., the natural vegetation has been partially or completely destroyed in the remaining parts. The biggest reason for this is human interference in the natural environment. In 2001, the total area of forests was 20.55% of the area of India.

(Ecosystem)

The distribution of plants and animals on Earth is mainly determined by climate. The nature of plants of any area affects the animal life of that area. When the vegetation of an area changes, the animal life of that area also changes. Plants and animals are related to each other. Plants and animals together make up an ecosystem. Human beings are also a part of this ecosystem. Ecosystems are being affected by various human activities. Man uses wildlife and vegetation to his advantage. Due to this natural resources are gradually getting destroyed. Humans are using these resources a lot. Trees are being cut. Animals are being hunted. This is causing imbalance in the ecosystems. As a result, many species of the environment are becoming extinct. A large ecosystem containing a particular type of plant or animal life on the surface is called 'biome'. Identification of biome is based on plant.
